Leslie Edwards Humez...
...is a Cleveland native living in Lake County who learned to love clay from her father who made tiny critters for her every day. Even as a toddler she would play in the mud loving the feel of it; there is even a family pic of Leslie sitting in the middle of a puddle so busy making mud pies she didn't notice the camera. Later, while auditing summer classes at The Cooper School, Leslie was inspired by the immortal Viktor Schrekengost whose limitless imagination she credits with having broadened her own....he could do anything! She credits him with her belief that if she can imagine a thing, she can make it happen.
Other education at CSU and LCC was of necessity and had little to do with art except as a reminder to work harder doing what she loved: sculpture. Leslie spent a good bit of her adult life developing her own artistic style while exhibiting sporadically and working in the publishing business where she distinguished herself by being one of the first few women to break down barriers in a field filled entirely with men...and after the fact, is pleased to have survived the misogyny. She became the first female regional circulation manager for Penthouse Intl. Inc., and retired to sculpt full time.
Leslie has one son Matt Edwards, Animal Specialist at Cleveland Botanic Garden, and is married to sculptor/author/polymath Nick Humez. At 70+ she still works every day doing what she loves: making little somethings out of nothing. Leslie is an active member of Artist Archives of the Western Reserve and Northers Ohio Illustrators Society. Since the onset of covid19 she's taking herself less seriously and just having fun coaxing little imaginaries out from under the bed and into the light.
