Leslie Edwards Humez,
resident sculptor, Gallery Plus through May 15, 2020
After nearly six years, I'm leaving Gallery Plus and moving on! Sincere thanks to all who have supported my work at 78th St. Studios. Thanks to Tricia Kaman, Diane Cooper Hoeptner, and Ted Lawson for following my lead and of course, Zack Hoon: we were the conglomerate whose work created the perfect mix needed to convince the building owner to rent the space to launch a new gallery, later named Gallery Plus. Best of luck to all who follow.
In the current covid vacuum, gallery doors have been locked since March '20. To pick up the slack, I'm out here experimenting with new ideas and improved ways to present my work. I hope to bulldoze a path and shatter the status quo by inviting others who wish to share similar and comparable work and resources into a shared space via artist-managed, targeted, specialty marketing under a break-even umbrella. MonsterLounge.art is under construction. See you all soon!
2014
December 19. 2014 Third Friday November 17th, 2014
Third Friday has rolled around again and it's been a very productive month. I've finished two new works for Gallery + ! Most months I feel lucky to finish one new piece, so stepping up production by 100 % is a surprise, and an effort that is not soon likely to repeat. What do you get when you combine a Christmas carol verse with three chicks at a euphemistic hen party? Why three French Hens of course! These girlie shapes are dressed in bikinis for the Riviera. With reflective mirrors, they'll brighten any table. Three French Hens On The Riviera is the perfect functional gift for all who adore the female form and a silly pun or two. Priced as a set, each with a six-sided beveled glass mirror. $575. (Use dripless beeswax candles.) Everybody will guess that I borrowed the next title for this second work from The Night Before Christmas, first published in 1823 in Troy, New York.
Much has changed in the world during the last 191 years, but some good things have stayed the same. Mothers still tuck their kids in and then wind down with a warm cup, relaxing in their favorite chair after a long day. And moms still doze off. (Sorry, Matt.) Mamma In Her Kerchief is a tribute then to the memory of dozing moms, grammas and aunties everywhere who loved us, and especially for the little boy who hardly ever got to hear the end of his bedtime story. :) A portion of the proceeds goes to a women & kids shelter. $1200. Watch this space for new sculpture like Mickey Meows and Dead On My Feet as well as developing ideas like Sweet Notes © , which are very realistic cookie sculptures with room on back for a message, ready to mail! Hang 'em or use 'em to weigh down your manuscript. (Cupcakes coming soon!) Also, look for the first in a series of mean hardwood hair brushes designed to especially for those really Bad Hair © days.
