America Scores offers Cleveland kids after-school programming that teaches literacy, community engagement and fitness.
This year, the Inspired Art Benefit Auction team has invited me to choose a poem written by one of their kids to inspire my work which will in turn, be auctioned to support the program. (more) Helping me help kids is as easy as 1-2-3. 1) Pop in to Gallery + for a free preview. 2) Buy your auction tickets online. 3) Bid at the auction on June 6th. Tickets and more information: http://www.inspiredartcleveland.com/ |
Here's the poem that inspired, written by fourth grader Alexandria L., of Robinson G. Jones School.
Congratulations Alexandria L.. I want to meet you. Your work is amazing! Untitled Strawberries, blueberries, they are sweet. Watermelon, bananas -- what a treat! Chicken Noodle soup with a spoon on the side. And remember that poems don’t have to rhyme! Work on display Third Friday 4/17 and 5/15 at Gallery + Suite 109, 78th St. Studios, Cleveland. Auction is June 6th (6:30-9:30) in 78th St. Studio's smARTspace, directly adjacent to Gallery +. |
Hello friends,
April has been an exciting and busy month for me. Easter spent with family was a welcome diversion. Outside, spring beckons. On my work table, three sculptures and a canvas, all in various stages of completion, battle for my attention. And once again, Third Friday is knocking at the door. (Are there really only a dozen of these events each year?)
This month at Gallery + I'll be previewing work donated to America Scores Cleveland, a non-profit that offers after-school programming which teaches kids poetry, soccer and community engagement. For their Inspired Art Benefit Auction I took inspiration from a poem written by an amazing 4th grader. The chemistry was perfect and the result is this foodie sculpture, I Scream, that will be auctioned to help support the program.
Pop in to Gallery + in 78th St. Studios on Third Friday 4/17 or 5/15 to preview, then bid on June 6, 2015 at their gala event in the adjacent smARTspace, next room over from Gallery +. Tickets include heavy hors d'oeuveres, beer and wine, music, performances, desserts, coffee. You'll have fun and be supporting kids and the arts (and me) for a solid tomorrow!
